Back to school…back to sewing

Hello All,

It is really starting to feel like fall now that the kids are back in school and we are seeing moms (and dads) that finally have some time for themselves and their projects. Summer was great but we know there are more than a couple of you who are happy to see the kids otherwise occupied (you know who you are)  : )   In keeping with the back to school idea we have scheduled sewing and quilting classes galore. Everything from Introduction to Pattern Making to a Baby Kimono to Beginning Quilting, and lots of one night classes that will be great for making holiday gifts. I know everyone on my list is getting a grocery tote this year ( so if you are on my list, and reading this please act surprised).  We have pictures of most class samples are in the photos category of this blog so if you are unsure of a class description check it it, or come by the shop to see samples in person.  We hope you will find something you like and get yourself  back to school!

Thanks to everyone who has dropped off pillow cases and fabric for the conkerr cancer organization. We have seen some really cute things come through and it is so nice to know that the pillow cases are going to local hospitals for local kids. If you would like a receipt for tax purposes be sure to include your name address and phone number with your donation so the powers that be can get that to you. We are merely a drop off point, so if you have any questions about your donation please contact  www.conkerrcancer.org .

Is your cool cottons punch card up to date?  Did you forget your card the last time you were in?  Are we holding a receipt for you?  The recipe box that we hold receipts in when you forget your punch card is full so we need to start cleaning it out. Starting in November, receipts more than 6 months old will be discarded, so if you think you may have a receipt that needs to be credited be sure to ask us to check the box.

Thank you everyone for a wonderful summer. We are so lucky to have the best teachers, students, customers and friends and we truly appreciate you all. We hope to see you in the shop soon, be it for a class, planning your next quilt, or just dropping by to say hello.  Happy Fall !

August News

Hello Everyone,

A couple of things happening here at cool cottons ( other than of course some big shipments of great new fabrics)   We will be closed on August 19th, 20th and 21st  (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) to have our steps repaired. The concrete was badly damaged over the winter and we need to fix them before they deteriorate even more.  If all goes as planned (fingers crossed) we will re-open on Saturday, August 22nd with new and safe steps. We are also looking at putting in a handrail on the lower steps, but that is a little down the line.

cool cottons is now a drop off center for a great charity that donates pillow cases to kids in the hospital with cancer and other serious illnesses.  You can either make the pillow case yourself, or donate fabric that volunteers will use to make them.  There are some guidelines the organization would like you to follow regarding size and packaging, so if you are interested in helping out visit www.conkerrcancer.org  to see the details. Then just bring in your pillow case(s) or fabric and cool cottons will get them to the folks that deliver them to the kids at the local hospitals.  Now thats a cool way to use up some of your stash!

Now that summer is winding down, we’ve been talking with our teachers about fall classes. Watch the classes page on the blog to see the most current schedule and let us know if there is anything you would like to see added.  www.coolcottons.biz/classes   If you have a group of 3 to 6 people who want to take a class together give us a call and we’ll talk to the teacher about working around your schedule.

Are you getting our newsletter by email ?   If you are signed up but have not received this past newsletter from us,  and are seeing it for the first time here on our blog  please re-submit your information on our news page   www.coolcottons.biz/news   Some of the addresses we have may be out of date, or maybe we guessed at the address because we  couldn’t read the writing  :o   so consequently  we have had  a few undeliverable messages.   Also, let us know if you receive our newsletter multiple times….we may have more than one email address for you.  The last thing we want to do is spam you!  : )

Thank you all for making this a great summer at cool cottons. Hope to see you soon…

Newsletter June 2009

Hello Everyone,

It has been a busy spring for us here at cool cottons and we would like to thank you for supporting us. We see so much great stuff being made and we thought that you might like to share your cool cottons creations with the rest of the world, or at least our new flickr group. We are working on putting a direct link to the group on our website www.coolcottons.biz/news but in the meantime you can post your photo’s at www.flickr.com/groups/coolcottons  There are already some really cute photo’s there so maybe you’ll get inspired for your next project?

As always we are getting new fabric almost every day.The latest from Joel Dewberry has arrived, some new fabrics from Kokka and Alexander Henry, and if shipping dates are to be believed the new Kaffe Fassett/Brandon Mably/Phillip Jacobs collection should be arriving soon. We seem to have ordered a lot of new fabric for June July and August delivery so this should be a colorful summer.

Our new website is up and running and our class schedule is now online! Wow, I think we saved at least 1 tree by not having to print out so many hard copies. We still have paper copies at the shop with the dates, times and prices of classes but for a full description you’ll want to go to www.coolcottons.biz/classes  for the most current information. There are lots of classes being offered this summer, and we are very lucky to have the absolute best teachers. So make a date with Catherine, Jolyn, Shelly or Sue. If you don’t see a class offered that you would like to take please let us know and we’ll see if we can set it up.  (note to the beginning quilting folks who have expressed interest…… it’s coming, we haven’t forgotten about you!)

Thanks to everyone who commented on, or made suggestions about our website and links. As you may know, we here at cool cottons are a tad technologically challenged (read as kicking and screaming into the 21st century) We are not quite ready to Twitter (Tweet?) … but we are now on flickr (thanks Shelly)  and we have our blog on the website (thanks for the nudge Sarah) … baby steps.  So, if you would like to make a comment or suggestion we would love to hear it. We may grimace and groan (don’t take it personally) but we do value your input. We have the best customers at cool cottons!

Quilters, don’t forget the Sew Oregon Shop Hop runs from June 25th through July 9th. We should be getting our passports soon. For more information check www.seworegon.com. This will be a fun event (cross fingers for no $4/gal gas prices like last year)

Have a great summer…see you soon
